Route no. 3
Danube Delta Trip – Letea Village – ONE DAY
TULCEA – MILA 36 CHANNEL – SIREASA CHANNEL – SONTEA VECHE CHANNEL – NEBUNU LAKE – BACLANESTI LAKE – FORTUNA LAKE – MILA 23 VILLAGE – HERACLEEA CHANNEL – LOPATNA CHANNEL – MATITA CHANNEL – MERHEI CHANNEL* – LETEA VILLAGE ( VISIT AT THE LETEA FOREST + LUNCH) – MADGEARU CHANNEL – DUNAREA VECHE CHANNEL – SULINA CHANNEL – TULCEA.
The itinerary includes two special touristic routes that we have combined to satisfy the desire for “more” adventure and knowledge. Picturesque landscapes and natural wilderness meet with the exotic Letea forest.
From Mile 23, we follow the course of several channels and lakes, particularly generous with species of birds and plants. We will make short stops on the lakes’ mouth, home to colonies of pelicans, for birdwatching and shooting photos.
Once in Mile 23, we will make a short stop in the village after which we will continue to plunge far in the Danube Delta. We will pass through a different area, rich in landscape and avifauna. You will have the opportunity to see other species of birds than the ones encountered before, although they have a common denominator: water lilies and reeds create landscapes different from the rest.
After going through Heracleea Merhei and Matita channels, we will stop in Letea village for lunch and visit Letea forest. Transport to the forest is in horse-drawn carts or SUVs.
Letea forest is the northernmost subtropical forest in Europe and the only oak forest in the world increased on a sea bank. It abounds in climbing plants like wild vines, hops, forest tendril and not least the Greek liana, giving the forest a Mediterranean appearance.
Famous for its colony of wild horses, dunes and secular oaks, Letea is a sight not to be missed.
Note *: If the water level of the Danube will not allow the passage of vessels on this route, there is a second route: DUNAREA VECHE CHANNEL – MADGEARU CHANNEL – LETEA. Madgearu channel is also an attractive place thanks to generous landscape consisting of areas with water lilies, reed-lined edges and the multitude of birds that can be seen in flight or on the water, due to the close proximity of the strictly protected area “Raducu Lake”.
